Mehlville School District currently has outstanding balances of more than $11,000.00 across all schools. The Pay it Forward (PIF) program was started to help our families pay some of those outstanding fees.

Director of School Food and Nutrition Services Katie Gegg attributes some of the outstanding fees to changes made to the USDA eligibility guidelines for free and reduced lunch. Some families who qualified in the 2018-2019 school year, did not qualify again this year.

“Some of our families don’t qualify for free or reduced price meals by a very slim amount,” Gegg said. “These families struggle to keep their student’s meal accounts current.”

Pay it Forward allows people to make donations online to help these families with the cost of meals. School principals, counselors and social workers will determine how to allocate funds as they are aware of families in need. Donations can be made to a specific school or the district in general. Click here to make a donation.

Several non-profit organizations made donations to our schools prior to winter break to help pay off some of that unpaid debt, including Ruka Nade, which donated more than $2,300.00 to cover all existing account balances at Buerkle Middle School.
