Posted on 09/14/2020
Directional markings have been placed on hallway floorsOn Tuesday, Sept. 22, students in preschool through second grade will transition to Plan B: Blended, while all other students will remain in Plan C: Connected. Here are answers to some of the frequently asked questions we’ve received about the transition:

What days will my child be attending school?
In Plan B: Blended, all students will learn virtually on Monday. Students with last names beginning A-K will attend in-person classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Students with last names beginning L-Z attend in-person classes on Wednesdays and Fridays. Students will not have class on the days they are not attending in-person classes. However, students will be taking their Chromebooks home every night, and they will have access to enrichment and review activities.

Will students learn virtually on the days they are not in-person?
Students will leave school knowing what is expected of them for the next day. Your child will be provided a variety of learning activities to complete at home that will reinforce content provided on days at school which can include independent reading, i-Ready, working on writing pieces, watching instructional videos, practicing math skills, continuing work on projects, etc. STRETCH will take place virtually on days when students are not at school.

Here are some tips for establishing a conducive environment for learning from home:
- Establish a dedicated learning space
- Encourage activity and minimize screen time.
- Establish schedules.
- Allow your student voice in the learning process.
- Take breaks.
- Don’t try to power through frustration. Contact your teacher if your child is having difficulty practicing a newly acquired skill.
Praise and celebrate growth.

What is the plan for notifying families if a student, teacher or staff member tests positive for COVID-19? Will rooms or schools be closed?
Mehlville School District human resources staff and all of our principals have completed COVID-19 contact tracing training from Johns Hopkins University. If a member of the school community tests positive, our staff are prepared to complete contact tracing to identify anyone who needs to self-isolate. Primary contacts, those who spent at least 15 minutes in close contact with the person who tested will be notified of their exposure and sent home. Secondary contacts, those who were in close contact with primary contacts, will also be notified about a potential exposure. Once these notifications are complete, we will provide a general exposure notification via email to all staff and parents at the school.

Following an exposure, part of a school or the entire school may close for deep cleaning. If necessary, impacted classrooms, grades or the entire school could pivot to Plan C, connected learning online.

Will there be before and after care for students on the days they attend school?
We will continue to have Y Club available for students on their attendance days. Learn more.

Is the day my child attends school still determined by my oldest child’s last name if that child is still learning in Plan C: Connected?
Yes.

Can students remain all-virtual if parents choose to?
If you have concerns about your child returning to school, please contact your child’s principal.

What safety procedures are in place to keep students and staff safe during Plan B: Blended?
We have established district-wide safety procedures that will be used to keep students and staff safe in both Plan A: At School and Plan B: Blended. View the video to learn more.
