The OASIS Tutoring Program is beneficial for students and volunteers.
Through the OASIS Intergenerational Tutoring Program, residents of the
Mehlville School District who are at least 50 years old have the
opportunity to make a difference in the life of a student. The District
currently is
looking for individuals interested in tutoring a young
child for one hour each week to further develop the student’s reading
and language skills and to instill a positive attitude towards learning.
Tutors receive 12 hours of initial training, and the program offers
continued support through regular tutor meetings where volunteers can
share experiences, solve problems and build friendships. Training and
materials are provided and no teaching experience is needed.
OASIS is a national education organization designed to enrich the lives
of adults age 50 plus through programs in the arts, humanities, health,
technology and volunteer service. For more information about becoming a
reading tutor in the Mehlville School District, please contact Sarah
