Crayola IMAGINE Arts Academy |

Experiencing Strings | Grades 3-5

Students in grades 3-5 have the opportunity to learn to play the violin, viola, cello or bass* through our Experiencing Strings program. We offer both beginner and advanced lessons at Blades, Oakville, Point, Rogers and Wohlwend elementary schools. We are offering beginner lessons at Hagemann, MOSAIC and Trautwein elementary schools.

The cost for the fall session of program is $119, however, students are responsible for their own instruments. If your family chooses to rent an instrument through Nottelmann Music Company (314-631-1486 phone), a separate rental fee will apply from Nottelmann directly. Registration is open now. The winter/spring session will begin in January of 2024.

Students will perform in a showcase on Tuesday, January 23 at 6:30 p.m. at the Nottelmann Auditorium. (Rehearsal on January 18 at 4:15 p.m.)

Hapkido Korean-Style Karate | Ages 6-106
Teachers Mr. Kenny and Dr. Franzi of the Hoshin Sol Academy will guide martial arts students through "the art of coordinated movement" otherwise known as Hapkido. Students will learn self-discipline, character, maturity and respect for others, while learning counter-offensive and self-defense applications.

Jewelry Creations | Grades K-5

Students learn all about jewelry-making and design with techniques such as shrink art, crimping, beadwork, wire-wrapping, clay and metal-stamping! Mrs. Lyons shows students how to find inspiration in nature, our universe, pop culture and the world around us. Each week, our young artists will bring home a unique piece to keep or gift to friends and family. All supplies are included.

Little Medical School | 
Grades K-5

Little Medical School courses bring science, healthcare and the exciting world of medicine to children in a creative, fun and interactive way. Little Veterinary School explores the health, diet and proper care of dogs, cats or horses. Little Doctor School teaches kids about the key responsibilities of a doctor, how the body and organs work, and introduces kids to real medical instruments. During Little Nursing School, students will assume the key functions of a nurse and use real medical instruments and administer first aid. Wilderness Medicine introduces kids to emergency situations they may encounter in the wild and how to prepare for natural disasters. Each course offers hands-on activities and lots of take-home treasures!

MAD Science | 
Grades K-5

S.T.E.M. is everywhere! In this 6-week course, kids will unbox the surprising world of SCIENCE by exploring forensics, meteorology, entomology and mechanical engineering. Students gain foundational science knowledge that will help them in their future scientific endeavors!

"Coop" Cooper will teach percussion classes during the Fall Session at Washington Middle School at 5165 Ambs Road.

This class will help students in grades 6-9 build the basic fundamentals of percussion. *Students will need a pair of sticks, keyboard mallets, the books, "A Fresh Approach to Mallet Percussion" and "A Fresh Approach to Snare Drum", practice pad and a folder for extra music. Some materials may be rented from Nottelmann Music Company (314.631.1486). 

Intermediate Percussion Classes | Grades 6-9 | $215 | Sept. 11-Nov. 13, 2023

Community Beginner and Intermediate Band

Fall Concert Performance: Monday, November 27 at 7 p.m.

Beginner Band | 5:30-6:15 p.m.
This class is for students with no musical experience. You will learn how to play a new instrument. Students must provide their own instrument and text. 

Intermediate Band | 6:15-7 p.m.
This class is for students with at least one year of musical experience who would like the structure of practicing weekly with a group of musicians at a similar level. Students must provide their own instrument and texts.

On Monday, November 27, the Community Beginner and Intermediate Bands will perform in the Fall Concert at Nottelmann Auditorium at 7 p.m. Students are responsible to rent or purchase an instrument.

Driver's Education | Ages 15+ | $325/session

There are several sessions of Driver's Education throughout the year. Fall classes meet for three (3) weeks, Monday through Thursday, from 3:30-6 p.m. Some after-class driving will be required; instructors will provide students with a schedule after the session begins. Please note that transportation to and from class is not provided by the district. All classes will take place on the Mehlville High School campus in the Witzel Learning Center (through Door 5).

Driver's Education through the Mehlville School District adheres to the requirements set forth by the State of Missouri including: classroom time, 12 hours of simulated driving, 12 hours of observation, and 3 hours of behind-the-wheel driving. Students MUST be able to attend all classes per session. There is no availability for make-up classes. Students who do not complete all required hours will not receive certification; also note that there is no refund for failure to receive certification. It is strongly recommended that students obtain their Missouri driving permit prior to the start of class.

Fundamentals of Whitewater Kayaking | $125

The Missouri Whitewater Association is teaming up with Community Education to provide introductory whitewater classes in the Mehlville pool. Instructors will help build your fundamental whitewater kayaking skills, such as strokes, braces and the components of the roll.

Fundamentals of Whitewater Kayaking | $125

The Missouri Whitewater Association is teaming up with Community Education to provide introductory whitewater classes in the Mehlville pool. Instructors will help build your fundamental whitewater kayaking skills, such as strokes, braces and the components of the roll.

Registration is open for all sessions which run on Sunday evenings, 5:15-8 p.m.

Kayaks, paddles and skirts are available for students over the age of 15. You are also welcome to bring your own gear. If a student is under the age of 15, a registered adult must accompany the child. *SORRY, WE DO NOT HAVE GEAR FOR KIDS UNDER 15.

Percussion Around the World | Adults | $129
Sept. 11-Nov. 13, 2023

This class will introduce students (16 years and older) to percussion around the world including West African drumming, Afro Cuban percussion, marching percussion and much more. Students will learn to read music in this hands-on experience. Classes are held Mondays, September 11-November 13 at Washington Middle School at 5165 Ambs Road.

(Ages 18 and older) Held in the deep end of the pool, participants use a belt and tether to mimic the motions of running without the impact and strain! Must be able to swim in the deep end without the use of a flotation aid. Class times noted below. Note: registrations are subject to a service fee.

Learn to Swim | Ages 3-5 and 6-12+

Enroll your child in swim lessons at the Mehlville Pool. Children will learn about water safety, build their confidence and practice swimming strokes. Space is limited. Classes run for 50 minutes. The Mehlville Pool is located at 3100 Lemay Ferry Road.

*A try-out is required for Coached Lap Swim. Students should be able to swim 50 yards of freestyle with breathing, 50 yards of backstroke and 50 yards of another stroke (breaststroke, sidestroke or butterfly). If you are unsure, please bring the student to a recreational swim time, where the pool staff may evaluate the student.
