Voters in Mehlville School District passed a tax increase in April to support competitive salaries to attract and retain high quality teachers and support staff to serve the district’s students. Prop E passed by 63.63 percent of the votes.
The passage of Prop E increases taxes by 31 cents for each $100 of assessed value. Competitive pay increases go into effect with with 2023-2024 school year.
“Prop E is making our schools stronger by allowing us to invest in all of our employees through competitive compensation,” said Dr. Shannon Pike, executive director of human resources. “These pay increases will help us keep our talented staff and recruit the best and brightest new teachers and support staff.”
Improved compensation for all staff is reflected in the teacher salary schedule and the classified salary schedule for the 2023-2024 school year. Those schedules can be viewed on the district website.
Here are some highlights:
- First year teachers in Mehlville School District will make $46,000 next year, up from $41,500. This puts Mehlville in line with districts like Lindbergh, Kirkwood, Parkway and Rockwood.
- All support staff positions start with an hourly salary of at least $15.
- School food positions will start at $15.50, up from $13.85 per hour.
- Custodians start at $16.25, up from $14 per hour.
- Bus drivers start at $18.55, up from $17 per hour.
