South Tech dental studentMehlville School District high school juniors and seniors have an opportunity to gain hands-on experience, college credit and certifications by spending half of their school day at South Tech.

South Tech features a variety of courses that are taught by experts in their field. These courses provide students the opportunities to further their knowledge through career and vocational offerings not available at Mehlville High School and Oakville High School.

Josephine Sebunyenzi, Mehlville High School junior, participates in the South Tech dental sciences program. “I’ve been able to learn more about teeth in general, make models of certain parts of the teeth and am prepared to work in a dental office as an assistant,” Sebunyenzi said.

Courses at South Tech often provide opportunities for students to earn certifications and college credit. For example, by the time Sebunyenzi graduates, she’ll be certified in dental assisting, CPR and nitrous training, and have college credit in anatomy and physiology.

South Tech also helps its students begin networking with industry professionals, including their own teachers.

“This semester we got to pick a school where we want to do an internship,” said Gabrielle Rosario, an Early Childhood Education student. “It’s such a great opportunity for me because I get a glimpse into my future.”

Students should speak to their counselor if they’re interested in enrolling in South Tech for the 2020-2021 school year.
