Xavier Brockes received a Do The Right Thing award for saving his little sister from drowning this summer. Brockes, a seventh-grader at Buerkle Middle School, was vacationing with his family at a lake in the Smoky Mountains this summer when his 3-year-old sister waded into water over her head. Xavier quickly rescued his sister and took her to shore.
Brockes was recognized by Do The Right Thing on Sept. 24. Do The Right Thing awards are a collaborative effort of St. Louis Metropitan Police, St. Louis County Police, Southern Illinois Police Chiefs Association, St. Louis Community College District, Commerce Bank, Millipore Sigma, The Magic House, St. Louis Science Center, St. Louis Snow Cone, Shrine of Our Lady of the Snows and KMOV Channel 4. The award recognizes good things children are doing in the community.
