Blades Elementary students are enjoying their new gaga ball pit, built by Boy Scout Troop 824.
Gaga ball is a dodgeball-style game where students attempt to make contact with other players' lower legs with a soft ball. "Students are able to work on agility skills, hand-eye coordination, teamwork and playing with integrity," said Kevin Green, Blades physical education teacher. "The students are extremely enthusiastic to have the new game at recess."
Ben Horn, a sophomore at Oakville High and former Blades student, recruited his Boy Scout Troop to help build the accessible gaga ball pit. The project is Horn's Eagle Scout project, and the Blades PTO, known as the Blades Bobcat Boosters, funded the project. The scouts finished the pit on Aug. 11.
"The Gaga pit has been a great addition to our PE program," said Jeremy Booker, Blades principal. The students have been so excited to try out this new activity. Having a former Blades student, Ben Horn, install it was a great way to keep former families involved in our school community."
