Matthew Hansen MHSMatthew Hansen, a junior at Mehlville High School, earned a perfect score of 36 on the ACT.

Hansen transferred to the district prior to this school year and took the test for the first time in September.

“I did take it once in seventh grade as part of the Duke University Talent Identification Program,” Hansen said. “I thought I would do well this time since my previous score was high a few years ago.”

"I was incredibly excited when I heard the news of Matt's ACT score," Principal Jason Landherr said. "This is such an impressive accomplishment that puts him in very exclusive company."

Hansen also takes courses at South Technical High School and says he’s enjoyed his time in the district so far, particularly that he gets to spend a large portion of his day working with computers.

“After high school graduation, I plan to go to a college that has technology-based programs,” Hansen said. “After college, I plan on doing something related to video game development/programming.”

"He is a hardworking young man who is very self aware of what he wants to do and what steps he needs to take to be successful," Landherr said.  "He is passionate about the IT field and computer programming and taking challenging coursework to prepare him for that field."

Only 0.2% of students who take the ACT earn a score of 36.
