OMS spreullNicole Spruell, Oakville Middle School health teacher, was recognized with a Lighthouse Award from CHADS Coalition. Spruell received the award for being an outstanding partner and advocate for mental health and suicide prevention efforts.

Her nominator wrote that Spruell is "instrumental in increasing understanding of the importance of mental health education, including the support of CHADS in classrooms for middle school health classes across the Mehlville School District."

CHADS (Communities Healing Adolescent Depression and Suicide) Coalition for Mental Health offers school outreach programs, community awareness presentations and classes as well as family support programs to advance the awareness and prevention of depression and suicide.
