Missouri Seal of BilteracyMehlville School District has met the requirements to recognize students with the Missouri Seal of Biliteracy.

The Missouri Seal of Biliteracy can be given to students who have demonstrated proficiency in English and at least one other language before high school graduation.

"We are pleased to provide this opportunity, beginning with the Class of 2020, to recognize our qualifying graduating students," Assistant Superintendent, Teaching and Learning Dr. Brian Smith said. "We celebrate the diversity in our school district through multilingual opportunities, both at home and at school."

The Missouri Seal of Biliteracy is a strategy from the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) aimed at providing students with more opportunities to further their college and/or career goals.

“Not only does bilingualism improve cognition, behavior and problem solving, it will lead to additional career opportunities when your students enter the workforce,” DESE Assistant Commissioner, Office of College & Career Readiness Blaine Henningsen said.

Obtaining the Missouri of Seal Biliteracy can provide students with additional opportunities including collegiate credit at certain institutions.

Students can learn more about the requirements and benefits of the Missouri Seal of Biliteracy by visiting this website or speaking to their counselor. Counselors will have applications at the start of the spring semester.
