Dance Classes

Miss Tina Stemmler will introduce students to a variety of dances like tap, jazz, ballet, musical theatre dance and more. Ms. Stemmler is dance master certified with a B.A. in Dance from Webster University.


Winter/Spring Session

Dance for Kids | Ages 3-6 | January 10-March 13

This course will introduce kids (ages 3-6) to dance, movement and performance! Children will work on their social skills, expressing their emotions, practice their fine-listening skills, have a better awareness of movement, and use creativity and imagination. They will also learn to work in a group. Students will learn the basics of tap, jazz, musical theatre, ballet and pom.

*Students do not need a special outfit. They will need to wear clothes they can move around in and sneakers.

Classes will meet on the following Wednesdays from 3:30-4:15 p.m.: January 10, 17, 31, February 7, 14, 21, March 6 and 13. Classes will be held at John Cary Early Childhood Center in the Multipurpose Room located at 3155 Koch Road.

Musical Theatre Dance | Grades 6-9 | January 10-March 13

This course will teach students dance and facial movements to enhance their performance on stage and nail those future auditions! (NOTE: Miss Tina does not teach singing or choral lessons. This course is for theatrical dance only.)

*Students do not need a special outfit. They will need to wear clothes they can move around in and sneakers.

Classes will meet on the following Wednesdays from 5-5:45 p.m.: January 10, 17, 31, February 7, 14, 21, March 6 and 13. Classes will be held in the cafeteria in Bernard Middle School located at 1054 Forder Road.

"Coop" Cooper teaches students of all ages to play the electric bass guitar at Washington Middle School.

"Coop" Cooper gives an introduction to the electric bass guitar. *Students will need an electric bass guitar, instrumental chord, Snark ST-2 guitar tuner, an extra folder and Hal Leonard's "Bass Method - Complete Edition" book. Experiencing Strings | Session 2 | Grades 3-5

Current strings students in grades 3-5 are invited to continue their strings education from January-May 2024. Strings lessons will continue to progress concluding with a Spring Concert at Oakville High School on May 7 at 7 p.m. Students will need to register for the Winter/Spring session at bit.ly/msdr9commed. Again, we will offer both beginner and advanced lessons at Oakville, Point, Rogers and Wohlwend elementary schools. We are offering beginner lessons at Blades, Hagemann, MOSAIC and Trautwein elementary schools.

The cost for the second session of the program is $119, however, students are responsible for their own instruments. If your family chooses to rent an instrument through Nottelmann Music Company (314-631-1486 phone), a separate rental fee will apply from Nottelmann directly. Registration is open now.

Students will perform in a concert on Tuesday, May 7 at 7 p.m. at Oakville High School. (Rehearsal dates/times will be provided to families.)

Hapkido Korean-Style Karate | Ages 6-106

Teachers Mr. Kenny and Dr. Franzi of the Hoshin Sol Academy will guide martial arts students through "the art of coordinated movement" otherwise known as Hapkido. Students will learn self-discipline, character, maturity and respect for others, while learning counter-offensive and self-defense applications.

Students learn all about jewelry-making and design with techniques such as shrink art, crimping, beadwork, wire-wrapping, clay and metal-stamping! Mrs. Lyons shows students how to find inspiration in nature, our universe, pop culture and the world around us. Each week, our young artists will bring home a unique piece to keep or gift to friends and family. All supplies are included.

"Coop" Cooper will teach a variety of percussion classes during the Winter/Spring Session at Washington Middle School at 5165 Ambs Road.

Beginning/Intermediate Percussion | Grades 5-10 | January 8-April 8

This class will help students in grades 5-10 build the fundamentals of percussion. *Students will need a pair of sticks, keyboard mallets, the books, "A Fresh Approach to Mallet Percussion" and "A Fresh Approach to Snare Drum", practice pad and a folder for extra music. Some materials may be rented from Nottelmann Music Company (314.631.1486). 

Middle School Drumline | Grades 6-8 | January 10-April 3

This class will help middle school students to build their drumline techniques and skills. *Students will need FS-1 marching sticks by Innovative Percussion, practice pad (no Remo Tunable pads) and a 3-ring binder with plastic protection sheets.

Point Elementary Sports Camps and Clinics

Basketball Clinic | Grades 3-5

Students in grades 3-5 can join Coach Stege's Basketball Clinic starting February 7.
Students will focus on ball-handling, shooting form, basketball plays and more. Each clinic ends with a short-sided basketball game. The goal is to have fun while gaining knowledge about the sport of basketball. The clinic is held on Wednesday mornings, before school, February 7, 14, 21 and 28.

Spring Community Beginner and Intermediate Band

Ages 12-112 | $109
Spring Concert Performance: Monday, November 27 at 7 p.m.

Beginner Band | 6:45-7:30 p.m.
This course is for students with little-to-no musical experience. You will learn to play a new instrument. Choose from the following instruments: clarinet, flute, French horn, saxophone, trombone or trumpet. Students must provide their own instrument and texts.

Intermediate Band | 6-6:45 p.m.
This class is for students with at least one year of musical experience who would like the structure of practicing weekly with a group of musicians at a similar level. Students must provide their own instrument and texts.

On Wednesday, May 22, the Community Intermediate Band will perform in the Spring Concert at Nottelmann Auditorium at 7 p.m. Students are responsible to rent or purchase an instrument.

Driver's Education | Ages 15+ | $325/session

There are several sessions of Driver's Education throughout the year. Winter/Spring classes meet for three (3) weeks, Monday through Thursday, from 3:30-6 p.m. Some after-class driving will be required; instructors will provide students with a schedule after the session begins. Please note that transportation to and from class is not provided by the district. All classes will take place on the Mehlville High School campus in the Witzel Learning Center (through Door 5).

Driver's Education through the Mehlville School District adheres to the requirements set forth by the State of Missouri including: classroom time, 12 hours of simulated driving, 12 hours of observation, and 3 hours of behind-the-wheel driving. Students MUST be able to attend all classes per session. There is no availability for make-up classes. Students who do not complete all required hours will not receive certification; also note that there is no refund for failure to receive certification. It is strongly recommended that students obtain their Missouri driving permit prior to the start of class.

Fundamentals of Whitewater Kayaking | $125

This exciting sport requires special knowledge of paddling gear, river reading, braces, paddle strokes and eskimo rolls. Instructors and volunteers team up to build your skillset to prepare you to join Missouri's whitewater community. Alumni of this course are offered extended educational opportunities to further their comfort level by returning to assist the next group of participants.
Registration is open for all sessions which run on Sunday evenings, 5-8 p.m.

*No class March 17 for the Missouri Whitewater Championships, March 24 for Spring Break and March 31 for Easter Sunday.

Kayaks, paddles and skirts are available for students over the age of 15. You are also welcome to bring your own gear. If a student is under the age of 15, a registered adult must accompany the child. *SORRY, WE DO NOT HAVE GEAR FOR KIDS UNDER 15. The gear is provided in class is suitable for participants 48" and taller. All other participants will need to provide their own kayak, paddle and sprayskirt.

Spring Community Beginner and Intermediate Band

Tuesdays, March 26-May 21 | Washington Middle School
Ages 12-112 | $109
Spring Concert Performance: Monday, November 27 at 7 p.m.

Beginner Band | 6:45-7:30 p.m.
This course is for students with little-to-no musical experience. You will learn to play a new instrument. Choose from the following instruments: clarinet, flute, French horn, saxophone, trombone or trumpet. Students must provide their own instrument and texts.

Intermediate Band | 6-6:45 p.m.
This class is for students with at least one year of musical experience who would like the structure of practicing weekly with a group of musicians at a similar level. Students must provide their own instrument and texts.

On Wednesday, May 22, the Community Intermediate Band will perform in the Spring Concert at Nottelmann Auditorium at 7 p.m. Students are responsible to rent or purchase an instrument.

Dance Classes for Adults

Miss Tina Stemmler will introduce students to a variety of dances like tap, jazz, ballet, musical theatre dance and more. Ms. Stemmler is dance master certified with a B.A. in Dance from Webster University.

Adult Tap Dance | Ages 18-118 | January 10-March 13

Enjoy dancing in this fun and encouraging course. Learn the tap dancers' national anthem, the "Shim Sham Shimmy" and shuffle off to "Buffalo". Miss Tina welcomes all skill levels from beginner to advanced to learn dances like the Shuffle, Flap, Maxiford, Tack Annie, Time Steps, Shim Sham, Paradiddle and more.

*Students must provide their own tap shoes.

Classes will meet on the following Wednesdays from 6-6:45 p.m.: January 10, 17, 31, February 7, 14, 21, March 6 and 13. Classes will be held in the cafeteria in Bernard Middle School located at 1054 Forder Road.

Hapkido Korean-Style Karate | Ages 6-106

Teachers Mr. Kenny and Dr. Franzi of the Hoshin Sol Academy will guide martial arts students through "the art of coordinated movement" otherwise known as Hapkido. Students will learn self-discipline, character, maturity and respect for others, while learning counter-offensive and self-defense applications.

Fundamentals of Whitewater Kayaking | $125

This exciting sport requires special knowledge of paddling gear, river reading, braces, paddle strokes and eskimo rolls. Instructors and volunteers team up to build your skillset to prepare you to join Missouri's whitewater community. Alumni of this course are offered extended educational opportunities to further their comfort level by returning to assist the next group of participants.
