We are pleased to announce that Erin Amador is the new coordinator of the Mehlville Parents as Teachers program, which assists parents with educational development before students begin kindergarten programs.
Amador has a Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood Special Education from Fontbonne University, as well as a Masters of Science in Education, Teacher Leadership from Southwest Baptist University. She’s currently working on her master of Science in Education, Curriculum and Instruction at Southwest Baptist University. She spent the last eight years working at John Cary Early Childhood Center in Mehlville School District as an Early Childhood Special Education Teacher.
“I can’t wait to continue building rapport and collaboration within the Parents as Teachers program,” said Amador. “I was personally helped by the program as a new mom. To be able to be part of this team and to help families within our community is something I can’t wait to do!”
Mehlville Parents as Teachers is a parent education and family support program that serves families from pregnancy until their child enters kindergarten. Family participation in the program is voluntary, and services are provided free of charge.
“I think Erin will excel in this new role because of her background in early childhood special education, her personal experience as a parent in the program and her passion for supporting families,” said Dr. Ann Westbrook, Director of Mehlville Early Childhood. “She is a firm believer that education begins at birth and is knowledgeable of many early intervention resources.”
Mehlville Parents as Teachers is currently supporting families with virtual visits due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Please call (314) 467-5304 or complete this form to enroll. You can learn more on the Parents as Teachers section of our website.
