STRETCH Referral Process

All Mehlville 1st and 4th
grade students will participate in Universal Screening. Families will be notified if their student qualifies for further gifted screening. Teacher referrals will be accepted for students in kindergarten and grades 2, 3, 5, 6 and 7.

Referrals submitted between December 5 and 12 will be included in the annual testing cycle, with testing occurring during the spring semester of the school year. Typically, a nonverbal general abilities screener is scheduled during the second quarter and intelligence testing in the third quarter. Students who qualify during this testing period will begin classes in August of the following academic school year.

Referrals must be submitted by December 12 to be eligible for testing.

The STRETCH referral process is approved by the Mehlville School District Board of Education and certified by the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.

Transfer Students

Students transferring into Mehlville Schools may submit results from intelligence tests that were administered by their former school districts. Tests need to be the same or comparable to those used by Mehlville Gifted Education.

Students with scores at or above the 95th percentile will be considered for STRETCH. Test results must be received by our office at least one week prior to the start of each semester. Information received after this point will be considered for the following semester's admissions process.

Please contact Cindy O’Brien at 314-467-5222 or [email protected] for questions regarding the STRETCH referral and transfer process.
