Nathan Burch, principal at Bierbaum Elementary, earned his doctorate in educational leadership from Maryville University this month.

"Dr. Burch is a tremendous leader for Bierbaum students," said Jeff Bresler, assistant superintendent, supervision of schools. "I'm very proud of him both for earning his doctorate and for the direction he is taking Bierbaum Elementary. He values relationships with his students and families and has a vision for academic growth for each and every one of his students."

Students surprised Burch on December 12 with a special assembly in his honor. Students performed a song, shared a video and presented him with a Bierbaum Buffalo created with their fingerprints.

This is Burch's second year as principal at Bierbaum Elementary. Prior to that, he was assistant principal at Clyde Hamrick Elementary in Fox School District.

Almost 80 percent of Mehlville School District certified educators have an advanced degree, and more than 3 percent have earned their doctorates.
