New high school courses approved for 2020-2021 school year

New courses 2020The Mehlville Board of Education adopted 23 new high school courses for the 2020-2021 school year at its meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 19.

“These courses will provide students independent opportunities to pursue fields in which they have significant interest and are representative of a variety of subject areas,” Assistant Superintendent, Teaching and Learning Dr. Brian Smith said. “I’m excited for students to have more voice in their schedule and in their academic pursuits.”

The new courses are: 
9th grade PE

Advanced Metals
Advanced Woodworking
Adventure and Outdoor Pursuits
Art Exploration
Athletic Conditioning
Baking and Pastry
Basic Aquatics
Fashion Merchandising
Home Inspection
Illustration
Independent Study in Technology and Engineering
Independent Study in Physical Education
Intermediate Acting
Intermediate Tenor/Bass Choir
Musical Theater (Co-taught with choir)
Path to 5K/10K
Robotics
Sculpture II
The Stage (Co-taught with choir)
Theatre Stagecraft II
Video Art

Students can request the courses on their high school course request form. Those are typically distributed in January/February. Contact the guidance/counseling office at your high school with any questions.
