Lauren CummingA Mehlville School District assistant principal was in for a big surprise this morning! Lauren Cumming, assistant principal at Bernard Middle School was presented with the Missouri State Assistant Principal of the Year award from the Missouri Association of Secondary School Principals. 

The award recognizes an outstanding assistant principal who demonstrates a positive impact on education and advocacy for students, ensures the school climate is positive and reflects high staff and student morale. The Missouri Assistant Principal of the Year also must demonstrate creativity and imagination in bringing about positive change and be willing to take risks to improve student learning, according to award criteria.

"Lauren is a servant leader who commits herself to constant professional development, and she encourages her staff to do the same," said Jeff Bresler, Assistant Superintendent – Supervision of Schools. "She is a lead learner who studies alongside her teachers so that she can serve as a resource and guide to do what is best for each individual student. Lauren’s passion for education and learning extends to many as she presents STEAM initiatives throughout the district and at conferences across the state. We are very proud of her and excited for her to receive this award."

Representatives with the Missouri Association of Secondary School Principals announced Cumming’s award during an all-school assembly at Bernard Middle School on Oct. 30.

This is Cumming’s third year as assistant principal at Bernard. Prior to that she taught foreign language at Oakville Middle School.
