Any Mehlville School District resident who would like to address the
Board on a matter that affects the District has the opportunity
to speak during the “Open Comments” periods at school board meetings.
The first comment period is at the beginning of the meeting and is limited to issues that are on that night's school board meeting agenda. The second comment period is near the end of the meeting and can focus on any district issue or concern. During each public comment session, the board is not able to respond to those comments.
Residents who wish to
speak at board meetings are requested to sign the “Open Comments” sheet that is provided, giving their address and topic of the comments to be made. Three
minutes will be allotted per person. When a group wishes to address the
Board, the group must pick a spokesperson, and that individual will have
five minutes to speak for the entire group. Time limits will be
strictly enforced.
The Board is accountable to the state for
protecting the legal rights of the schools, employees, students, parents
and others. Discussion of individuals or specific situations will not
be allowed. Such discussions must take place in the proper venue. The
Board will strictly enforce these rules, and speakers will be
interrupted if they wander into subject matter that might violate Board
rules and policy.
